Hi ladies ~ Happy Saturday! So this week was full of parties and gatherings…snacks, desserts, food that you don’t normally get, sitting around tables with food left on them, lots of appetizers, time crunches, shopping, busyness, etc.
. . .
So how did you do with all of those things? Did you use any strategies that we talked about on Sunday? Did you feel guilty for indulging (I hope not!)? And are you back on track? Have you gotten your workouts in?
. . .
Here’s the recap of my Thanksgiving experience…I can honestly say that I used some of the strategies, but I could have been a little better. Let me explain: On Thursday, I went to Amy’s house and did an hour long workout with her. We then snacked on healthy treats, and I didn’t overindulge. I went home and ate a healthy lunch, knowing that I’d be going to my in-laws for dinner. When we got there, I did have a few appetizers (some chips and dip and those peanut butter stuffed pretzels), but I kept it to one plateful. For dinner, I only ate 1 plateful of food, and I made sure to only that the things that I reallllly wanted. For dessert, I had a piece of cheesecake, but I shouldn’t have. I was still really full from dinner, but did it anyway, and guess what? I got a stomach ache. I HATE that feeling of being too full, and I was waaaaay overstuffed. Oh well, Friday would be a new day.
. . .
Friday, I woke up and ate a good and healthy breakfast – the Butternut Squash and Sausage with Apples and Cranberries. De-lish. Then we went to my son’s hockey game where there was a team party afterward. I knew we were going to my sister’s house immediately afterward for dinner, so the plan was to not eat anything. Well, I should have brought a snack. I did decline all of the nachos and hot pretzels that my family was buying at the snack bar, but by the time the pizza and wings came out for the team party, I was starving (it had been 5 hours since I had eaten). So I thought, “Well, I’ll just have a pizza square and a couple of wings.” (Knowing that I shouldn’t.) And so I did. I didn’t finish the pizza because it really didn’t taste good. (Why eat something just to eat it?) But I did have three wings, and immediately, I got a stomach ache. We weren’t even at the car before I was complaining to my husband about it.
. . .
Then we went to my sister’s house. We were having tacos in a bag. I just had some meat, lettuce, onion, tomatoes, guacamole, and salsa on a plate. I knew I didn’t need the Doritos. But, of course, my stomach was still hurting, so I shouldn’t have eaten at all. I should have waited until later. I drank only water. And then…dessert. My sister made a chocolate pie with homemade whipped cream! (I LOVE homemade whipped cream!) And so, again, I didn’t make the best choice, and I ate a small piece of pie with a ridiculously heaping pile of whipped cream. And then, I had one more for good measure, because maybe that would have made my stomach feel better. (Insert: Rolling eyes emoji) Well, my stomach had not calmed down since the chicken wings and it just got worse. By the time we got home I was almost doubled over in pain and I laid on the couch almost moaning until I went to bed (Hence the throwback workout for today instead of tomorrow). It was so bad that it was uncomfortable to even go to sleep. UGH.
. . .
I woke up this morning with no stomach ache, but no desire to eat either. So I didn’t. It was another full day of hockey. I waited until I was hungry before I ate, and I was smart about it. I ate half of a sandwich and a broth based soup. I drank water. When I was getting peckish, I had a bar that I had made sure to put in my bag rather than reaching for anything junky. I knew my stomach couldn’t take it, and I also knew that I never want to feel as crappy as I did last night. So I’m back on track. I’ve done a workout, and I’ve eaten well. And that’s the plan I’ll continue with.
. . .
And the moral of the story is: No matter how off-track you get, know that you’ll always be able to get right back on track the next day (or even the next meal!). The choice is yours because, as you know, you get to choose what goes into your body!
